CMC is seeking a Communications & Engagement Specialist to play a meaningful role in a high‑profile Defence transformation programme. Working alongside a central strategic communications team, you’ll help shape and deliver impactful communications and engagement activity that supports critical objectives, guides stakeholders through change, and builds trust in a complex and sensitive environment where clarity and confidence truly matter.
As a CMC Consultant, you will join a dynamic client team working hybrid onsite as part of a multi disciplinary group of professionals who value collaboration, innovation, and clarity of thought. What You’ll Do
As a CMC Consultant, you’ll work on a variety of exciting fast-paced programmes working as part of multi‑disciplinary teams, supporting clients while developing your consulting skills through structured development and hands‑on delivery.
About you
You’ll have the following skills & experience:
  • Experience operating in senior communications, engagement, or strategic communication roles, ideally within government, defence, national security, or other complex, high stakes environments.
  • Advanced copywriting, editorial, and narrative‑building skills across a range of communication channels and formats.

  • Highly effective relationship‑building capability, with confidence providing advice and challenge at senior levels.

  • A proven track record of shaping and delivering communications strategies and structured engagement plans.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with discretion and professionalism in highly secure settings.

  • Excellent relationship building skills and confidence advising at senior levels.

  • Skilled at distilling complex or technical information into clear, accessible messaging for diverse audiences.
  • Well‑developed organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously

Security requirements
  • Candidates must hold active eDV (Enhanced Developed Vetting) clearance.

Ideally, you’ll also be able to demonstrate

  • Experience working in line with central government communications frameworks and standards
  • Awareness of the UK national security context, including major programmes or work in sensitive/classified settings
  • Understanding of behavioural insights, audience segmentation, or strategic narrative development.
Applicants should be aware that regardless of any level of clearance, successful candidates will also be subject to the HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard Check.
